As of this morning, I only have three items checked out from the library and one of them will be returned today or tomorrow, depending on how my day moves along. Last week I had 8 items still out. So, what happened? Well, I finished my audiobooks and returned my DVD plus I scrapped a YA book that I wasn’t enjoying and I ordered two of the bigger books I had checked out in paperback for later reading. Maybe it’s cheating but it had to be done, y’all.
The truth is that after my shower this weekend I reached the scary realization that I could have a baby like any freaking day. Seriously. My brother was a month early. I was two weeks early. I hope that Ian can just be patient and not come until we’re ready but that means that we actually have to get ready. Which is stressful and hard work. The nursery is mostly done now. I think we just need to get the closet door back on and move the dresser upstairs. We need a bookshelf too, just to keep some stuff on for now and, you know, books. In the meantime, we have graduated to advanced tunneling in my house. There are shower gifts everywhere and the rush to finish projects is enough to send my blood pressure sky high. We are not good at doing things and Hubby is super stressed too.
The upside to all of this is that I don’t sleep anymore so I’ve been getting some reading done at night. I’ve progressed to Book Two in War and Peace. Last night I got out my book light and read a bit of Watermelon Sugar when I was awake and restless. Being pregnant in weird. I’ve officially hit a point where I don’t know how to take care of myself because I don’t know what I need or want. I want to sit on the couch and read and relax but I get all twitchy and can’t sit still.
Last week I finished my Ramona listening and, let me tell you, I already kind of miss it! I relate to Ramona on a spiritual level. I remember being little and getting into trouble on accident all of the time. I remember when my father was laid off from Pontiac Motors and I got to stay home with him instead of Mom. I remember the excitement of getting a burger and fries for dinner. Ramona is fun and funny and the books were a blast to listen to.
I’m going to miss my audiobooks but it will be nice to maybe play catch-up with my podcasts. BTW, I am UP in podcasts instead of down right now. They just make them so fast!
Finally, I read some graphic novels/comics this week. Last Tuesday I got a bit of a migraine in the afternoon and couldn’t concentrate on work so I picked up Smile. The Telgemeier books are extremely popular. I can barely keep them on the shelf! Now I know why. Telgemeier is great. Even though Smile took place in the late 80’s/early 90’s, there’s no way that a junior high girl wouldn’t relate to it. And Lumberjanes? Always tons of fun! This time the hardcore lady types were helping to get a mermaid band back together, so that should give you some idea of the riotous good time.
I’d like to clear two books this week. Wish me luck. Did I mention I only have light in half of my house at present?
